New Attractions We’d Like to See at Disney World

There is no denying that a trip to Disney World is an exciting proposition that every family hopes to make someday. Indeed, a visit to this enormous resort complex near Orlando, Florida is considered the ideal of family vacations, with its four exciting theme parks, two water parks, dozens of luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants, as well as terrific shopping and entertainment possibilities. Of course, the Disney vacation experience is also well-known for its inclusiveness, customer service, and those magic little touches that just tell their clientele that they are values. It truly is a magic place.

That being said, Disney World is always evolving and changing, trying to perfect the guests’ experiences. New rides and attractions are always in development, while others are phased out to make room for the new (I’m still not forgiving them for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride). Well, I have some ideas of my own about rides and attractions I’d like to see developed for the Disney World park experience. Let me know if any of these would appeal to you, or if you’ve ever had any ideas of your own.

Disney Hollywood Studios: The Great Disney Movie Ride
Though the name of the park is probably going to change in the near-future, Disney Hollywood Studios will always be an exciting place that celebrates the magic of the movies. There has been a great deal of discussion about what will become of The Great Movie Ride now that Turner Classic Movies appears to have decided not to renew their contract with Disney. If we must lose the attraction that is (and I’d rather we didn’t), how about revamping it to be The Great Disney Movie Ride? For those who truly love Disney animation, let them ride through an animatronic extravaganza that celebrates ALL the animated Disney films, with one scene depicted from each film in chronological order. Certain beloved classics might not have the right content to inspire a fully immersive ride experience in the way of Peter Pan’s Flight or Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, but how much fun would it be to wander through a scene from The Rescuers, 101 Dalmatians, or The Sword in the Stone?

EPCOT: The Matterhorn Bobsleds
If you have ever been to Disneyland in California, you are aware of the great big looming mountain that is the Matterhorn Bobsleds. This exciting ride has been a staple of that park since 1959, taking riders on a gliding, twisting, turning bobsled ride through the caves of an alpine mountain, while occasionally encountering the Abominable Snowman. Why this popular attraction never made it to the Florida parks is a bit of a conundrum, but it is about time that it did. With an effort underway to bring more theme attractions to EPCOT, why not find a way to build the Matterhorn Bobsleds in or around the World Showcase?

Disney Hollywood Studios: A Spooky Ride
The Haunted Mansion is ghoulish fun, but it is not exactly scary. The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror Is atmospherically spooky, but the real terror comes in the elevator drop at the end of the ride. With Disney World not just being for kids anymore AND the company having the resources of animatronic masters, it would be fun for them to find a way to create a more adult ride based in the world of fear, something that is immersive that will truly give us that adrenaline rush we crave. Thematically, I think this idea could only work at Hollywood Studios where perhaps some play on classic horror films can be the basis for this ride. I don’t mean blood and guts horror, but the Dracula, Werewolf, Frankenstein’s Monster, etc. that haunted our childhood dreams.

Disney Springs: Disney Cinema
How long has it been since you and the kids got to see a classic Disney film on the big screen? Since most of the Disney titles are readily available on DVD and Blu-Ray, it is my suspicion that it has been a long time since anyone has seen these films as they were originally intended to be seen. How about an onsite, old-fashioned looking cinema that shows just classic Disney movies? Each night they would show a different classic and the family could eat their fill of popcorn while watching Bambi, Cinderella, or Pinocchio.  It would take many of us back to a time where a release or re-release of a Disney film was a not-to-be-missed event.

Animal Kingdom: Indiana Jones Adventure
We all know that Dinosaur at Disney’s Animal Kingdom features the same track as the Indiana Jones Adventure Ride at Disneyland. Having ridden both, Indiana Jones Adventure is the far-superior ride in terms of thrills and surprises. Though it doesn’t exactly fit in with Animal Kingdom’s theme of, well, animals, the track is there and the change to the Indiana Jones and the excitement of this immersive experience might give Animal Kingdom a reason to graduate from being a half-day park into a full-day one.

Maybe these ideas would be great, or maybe they ae just pipe dreaming. In the end, a Disney World vacation is always going to be magical respite from our everyday lives. Whatever ideas they have in store for us are sure to be brimming with imagination and ingenuity. As the parks continue to evolve, however, it is fun to speculate about what could be. What ideas do you have that you’d like to see come true?
