It’s that time of year for spooks, witches, and the scary things that haunt us in our nightmares. It is Halloween, where the macabre makes us want to tap dance, the maudlin has us breaking out into a showstopper, and murder has us stealing an extra bow. Occasionally, there is a Broadway musical that comes along, reveling in the gross, gruesome, gory, and mentally deranged, Today, we are celebrating those Broadway musicals that capture the spirit of Halloween.

Spring is close, but not close enough, so we find ourselves getting cabin fever and our cranky meters are dialed up to high. A little levity seems to be what the doctor has ordered, so I thought it might be fun to muse what certain hit musicals would look like on paper (having a little fun with boiling them down to their barest components). The House of Broadway Musical Flops

One of the exciting things about seeing a Broadway show is the theatre that houses a production. Many Broadway houses have been around for almost one-hundred years. Ensconced within these artistic dwellings are the ghosts of shows gone by, a rich history of great, long running masterpieces ... and the occasional flop. Some theatres have had a lucky streak of success: The St. James, The Winter Garden, The Majestic. Others, have, for one reason or another, been a doomed house. Pouring through my notes, there is one theatre that has had more than its share of flops in its 30-year tenure as a Broadway house: The Marquis Theatre.

100 FAVORITE SHOWTUNES: PART IV - THE 100th BLOG!!!!

This entry marks my 100th blog and the conclusion of my four-part series “100 Favorite Showtunes”. It was an interesting and daunting exercise to write down my 100 favorite songs from musical theatre and to hold myself to the challenge of explaining why I loved them so much. I revealed a lot to myself as to what I am attracted to in musicals. It was eye-opening to realize that there are whole scores of musicals that I would rank in my Top Ten that didn’t have a song show up in my Top 100.
