It’s that time of year again, that three-day weekend celebration commemorating the That unofficial end of summer and officially celebrates hardworking labor in America. That’s right, it is Labor Day. In its honor, here is a playlist of Broadway showtunes that honor the men and women who keep the world spinning with their industry!
A musical that you do not hear about much anymore, but one that was a pretty big hit of the 1970s is Shenandoah. Set in Virginia during the Civil War, the musical was a gripping and tragic tale about a family-divided amidst one of the United States’ most harrowing periods. The musical featured a score by Gary Geld (music) and Peter Udell (lyrics) who had teamed up for the equally thought-provoking Purlie five years earlier. Shenandoah was based on the popular 1965 film of the same name. The Tony Award-winning book was by Udell, Philip Rose, and James Lee Barrett.
I know how my readership loves to watch videos from Broadway shows. For years, I have been wending my way through YouTube, watching great clips from Tony Awards, talk shows, and the occasional bootleg that has presented itself. Today, I feel like sharing my forty FAVORITE clips from hit shows (I’ve already done the flops).
