My Fair Lady: What Does the Perfect Cast Look Like?

This week we received some exciting news via Lincoln Center announcing that Bartlett Sher will be directing My Fair Lady for LCT’s Vivian Beaumont in 2018. My Fair Lady has not returned to the Broadway stage since Richard Chamberlain and Melissa Errico starred in a 1993 revival, and that production was not exactly embraced as definitive. Bartlett Sher is a master of staging in the Beaumont’s space, a luxuriously open thrust where the audience wraps around the playing area. He has mined many magical moments on this stage, probing the possibilities of the space with productions of The Light in the Piazza, South Pacific, and The King and I. My Fair Lady is an elegant show, one of the wittiest and most-intellectual of Broadway musicals (based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion), featuring a lush and literate Lerner and Loewe score. How can we not be excited to see how Sher marries this sparkling property with the space where he works his best magic?

Too Darn Hot! Ten Talented and Sexy Broadway Men to Add Some Heat to Your Winter

There is nothing more intoxicating than the combination of talent and physical perfection. All shame and shallowness aside, I admittedly noticed all the incredibly talented and sexy male stars populating Broadway shows this spring and decided to parlay those observations into blog entry where I get to extoll their virtues, celebrate their talents, and share some pretty pictures of them with my readers. So, just for you (okay, for me, too), here are ten talented and sexy Broadway men to add some heat to your frosty winter days.

Why ALLEGIANCE Will Be an Important Musical of the 2015-2016 Season

Yes, Hamilton has opened to rave reviews and audiences are experiencing a rare elation accompanied by facial tics and bladder leakage where this innovative musical is concerned. A bit like Hillary Clinton, the production has been preordained to be a big winner and, come this time next year, it will have several accolades under its belt. However, just like Bernie Sanders has proven to be an important force in the primary elections and could possibly steal some of Clinton’s thunder, the musical Allegiance is coming to town as its own important force of musical theatre.

The Great Musical Theatre Brunch

ave you ever been sitting around with friends and had that conversation that begins “If you could have any person, dead or alive, sit down and chat with you for an hour, who would it be?” Sure you have! Those of us with musical theatre obsessions play this game all of the time. I’m going to take it a step further because I like to imagine what it would be like to hold a Musical Theatre brunch. A brunch you say? Brunch is my favorite meal, so if I am going to host, that’s what it will be. Crepes, quiche, fresh fruit, pastries and mimosas. The rule of the game is that I can only invite ten people to the event and they must be living (without the latter restriction, I could never whittle the list down). Here’s the guest list and why I chose them.
